Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of AquaKlear over standard septic systems?
Standard systems rely on the soil to perform most of the treatment of domestic wastewater. AquaKlear systems treat your wastewater to over 98% clarity BEFORE the water is dispersed into the soil. The safe treated water is commonly reused for landscape irrigation – the ultimate in recycling and water conservation.
Why choose AquaKlear over other treatment systems?
AquaKlear’s compact, reliable and affordable technology is fast and easy to install, saving time and money. Plus, our versatile sizes and models, in either fiberglass or concrete, can be easily customized to provide the right solution for the right situation at the right price.
What is the AquaKlear difference?
Our innovative and reliable Clarifying Trio naturally and effectively treats domestic wastewater to a very high clarity. Working together, the patented AK Skimmer, above-ground Dual Outlet Compressor and internal AK Fine-Air Bubble Diffuser process wastewater and reduce nutrients and solids to well below California requirements.
What size treatment system should I buy?
Your county’s regulations specify the size treatment system needed; usually based on the number of bedrooms. Most counties would recommend a 500 gallon per day treatment system for a 3 bedroom home.
What am I going to see?
An AquaKlear system includes the tank and the operating equipment. Over the tank you will see several at-grade access covers; and the operating equipment consists of the controller and Dual-Outlet Compressor, which can be located up to 250′ away from the tank.
Once the wastewater is treated, how is the water dispersed?
AquaKlear’s safe, treated water can be be dispersed in many ways, including traditional gravity or pumped distribution. In California, a common method of dispersal is to a subsurface drip system that helps to conserve water by recycling and reusing the effluent for landscape irrigation. Use Your Water Twice™ with AquaKlear.
Is the Dual-Outlet Compressor noisy?
The Dual-Outlet Compressor is not only energy efficient, but it is also extremely quiet and vibration free. In fact, it can be placed directly outside or beneath any window without you even knowing that it is running!
Are there offensive odors?
When operating correctly, your AquaKlear system should not have any noticeable odors. If you detect a sour “rotten egg” smell, you should contact your service provider immediately – this may be an indication of a blower malfunction or dead or unhealthy microorganism population.
Can I use a garbage disposal?
As with all septic systems, a kitchen garbage disposal is not recommended. Use of these appliances adds untreatable waste to the system causing more frequent pumping of the residual solids.
Can I put water softener discharge into the AquaKlear?
Water softener discharge should never enter any septic system because the briny salts can harm or destroy the beneficial bacteria. California regulations allow the discharge to be diverted to a dry well.
How often does the AquaKlear need to be pumped?
As with all septic systems, periodic pumping of solids is required to keep your system healthy and operating correctly. Your personal habits and your usage of the system will determine how often your system needs to be pumped. Your local maintenance service provider will notify you when it’s time to pump your AquaKlear system.

What happens if something goes wrong?
With minimal moving parts, your AquaKlear is designed for easy serviceability. All electro-mechanical parts are quickly accessible for repair or replacement. Plus, when the controller senses a problem, the system automatically notifies your local service provider. Many times our technicians can help you troubleshoot over the phone to avoid a service call.
